We are all busy preparing to attend the Spanish Barbershop convention in April next year. Early booking of flights essential and looking at options for hotels and even apartments for those who are able to stay on and make a holiday out of it.
Songs are chosen and work has commenced on those and we are currently trying to book a guest Director to work with us on them. Everyone is getting excited!
We are singing at the Oxford Music Festival in February to give the “package” an airing
We are looking forward to meeting an American mixed chorus who are coming over next June to do some sight seeing and singing. It will make an interesting evening if some of our neighbouring chorus’ can come along and swell the numbers as well as being a great opportunity to have a good sing and maybe even a beer or two!!
Our MD Shanna Wells has returned from her exciting trip to Harmony University in America with renewed enthusiasum and loads of new ideas and things we can all do to improve the unity of sound in our small chorus. It has already made a difference so hopefully it will all aid a great result at SABS
We are looking forward to getting back to full strength now the holiday season is behind us
We would be delighted to see you at one of our events so feel free to contact us and come to hear us or join in with us at a rehearsal or you can come along and support one of the many fund raising evenings that we perform at.
Well here we are again having returned with what to us was another great victory at BABS convention in Harrogate having moved up the ladder by 3 places and a small increase in our marks on last year.
We keep improving which is the sole aim each year. That of course is not true because we also aim to have a thoroughly good time whilst we are there which once again we certainly did!
WE entertained a hen Party on Friday night who happened to be in the same restaurant as us and on Saturday we continued in that vain when the restaurant manager asked us to sing, liked what he heard and asked for more!! It all seemed to go down very well with the other customers who were pleased to have some free entertainment.
We competed with 21 men on the risers the biggest we have ever been. For the first time we could boast a tenor section as we had 3 tenors on stage one of whom had only joined the chorus a few weeks earlier. We had 2 convention ” virgins” on stage and even more first time supporters all of which had a thoroughly good time and are even threatening to follow us to Spain in 2007
So its onward and hopefully upward for us. 2017 will see us compete in the Spanish international convention. This will be a little different as men ladies and mixed choruses all compete in the same event. Our aims will of course be the same plus a firm intention of catching a few “rays ” whilst there. What’s not to like? You could join us if you want – see the contact page.
As mentioned in my previous post we are hoping to welcome our friends from America who are visiting Britain for some site seeing and singing next summer
Our concert which was aimed at raising funds for both ourselves and Katherine House Hospice was a great success. We were joined by Middleton Cheney singers and the Quartet Tonic who kindly agreed to appear and support or fundraising. We are pleased to say we will shortly be handing over a cheque to the hospice for £700.
Our MD Shanna Wells will shortly be travelling to the American Harmony University. No doubt she will be back with lots of great new ideas and making us work even harder to achieve an even better sound.
That’s all for now but keep an eye on our events if you want to catch up with us
So here we are again building in a strange form of mild panic towards the biggest event in our calendar – the BABS Convention being held this year in what I am sure is most if not all barbershopers favourite venue Harrogate in Yorkshire. We have had a good year and are looking forward to the competition where we will hope to continue our ever improving record of results. Two great songs which the guys all seem to love and that always helps
We are delighted to welcome Simon into our chorus who is one of those very rare animals in our chorus at least – a tenor. Great to have you on board Simon
Next year we plan to forsake the British competition in favour of the Spanish convention and hopefully have a lot of fun and some sunshine at the Polynesian Hotel in Benalmadena
We are also hoping to welcome some visitors from “over the pond” who have a desire to sing with some British Chorus’ whilst they are touring our wonderful country.
On a very much more local note we are looking forward to the 23rd April when we are appearing in a concert with Tonic (a Quartet from Bristol) and the Middleton Cheney Singers, raising money for Katherine house concert and to help us send our MD to Harmony University in the USA
Keep a look out for other events on the calendar on our home page
