Well its been a while since I updated the site, for which I apologise.
We worked very hard this year to make improvement to our score at BABS convention at the end of May.
We were fortunate to get Tonic quartet and Neil Firth to coach us, and we all had a couple of great week ends working with them.
I am glad to report that our hard work paid off, as we came away with our highest mark ever, and particularly pleasing were our marks for Presentation where we have in the past struggled to do well. This year both songs scored 67 and we had an overall score of 65.4 almost 4% up on the previous result which is an enormous jump at that level. Some of our wonderful ladies helped enormously this year as we decided to utilise a little stage make up to improve our appearance on stage. Thank you ladies we could not have done it without you!
We were 19 on the risers which although one of our biggest ever looks very small when compared to some of the chorus’ we compete against. We definitely need a few more members whom can compete which would I am sure give us a fuller sound. If you are interested or you know someone who might be feel free to come along or invite them to come along to one of our rehearsals. (Thursday evenings 7.30 at Banbury twenty cricket club in Banbury)
Apart from that we have as usual been busy with a variety of shows around the Banbury area. We were very pleased to be able to support Hallmark of Harmony recently at a concert they did for Kings Sutton Church which proved to be a great evening. As usual of course we finished in the local pub for “light refreshment” and a few more songs.
Please check out our events page for details of where and when we are performing so that you can come and join the fun – we would be delighted to see you

Where does the time go? We seem to have only recently returned from competing in Spain and we are already starting to think/prepare for the BABS convention in May next year.
Entry forms for local competitions are also dropping through the letter box and we are giving thought to entering some if not all of them as a “warm Up” for the main event
After some constructive comments by the international judges in Spain we all know what we have to improve on if we really want to keep increasing our marks and position so some hard work for the next few months ahead!
We are pleased to welcome our latest new member Philip Marshall who has previously sung with the Rivertones – Their loss and our gain! May I say on behalf of all of 5Ways a great big welcome Phil good to have you on board.
Our MD and some of our members are off to Bournemouth this week end for the LABS Convention who are hosting the European contest this year. Good luck to all the competitors.
As I say every time if you are reading this you have some interest in Barbershop so you would be most welcome to come and see us at one of the events we sing at or join us at our rehearsals on a Thursday evening – but be careful it is addictive!! We would love to see you

Having returned from the Spanish Association of Barbershop Singers Convention with the Highest mark we have ever achieved and that from 3 International judges you could say that we were quite pleased with ourselves! In particular our singing scores made us proud but we need to work on the presentation rather harder than we have before. Although we are thoroughly enjoying ourselves on stage we sometimes forget to tell our faces and this reflects in our scores – but good to have something positive to work on for BABS nest year.

We had an enormous amount of fun in June when we entertained our friends from across the pond. A joint Chorus of American and Canadian barbershoppers Pacific Coast Sound formed specifically for a touring visit to the UK. We first “met” their organiser some 3 years ago when she kindly organised some fundraising for us having heard that we had lost all our music and risers when our rehearsal venue burnt down in a freak storm.

We welcomed 35 of them to our rehearsal night and we sang to each other for most of the night intermingled with lots of liquid refreshment (to keep the throats lubricated) and wonderful food provided by the Souvlaki Brothers. ALL in all a wonderful time was had by both chorus’s and their friends and we are very tempted to organise a return visit sometime.

We are busy learning lots of new songs and trying to practice what we know we need to improve which is our performance. If we can get that right we could surprise ourselves at the next convention.

That’s about all I have for now. Hope to see you at one of our rehearsals or one of the events we sing at You are very welcome to come to either – Who knows you might even like it enough to join us !!
